  Why do we need an alternative?

Refined sugar has become a drug which we consume day in and day out. Right from our morning breakfast, till dessert sugar forms an important constituent of our diet. Excessive consumption of sugar is now causing chronic health problems in both adults and children.

Prolonged consumption of sugar causes health issues like increases glucose levels, Tooth decay, Obesity, Type 2 Diabetes., increased cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Developing kids must avoid eating sugar at all cost since it interferes with their hormones and metabolism.

While today's new consumer is becoming aware of the ill effects of sugar, Food industry is playing smart. Instead of printing plain sugar in its ingredients list its using different names to represent sugar.

What are Sugar Alternatives?

  • Honey - I would list honey on top of my list. Thanks to the hard-working bees, we can directly use honey in our food. Just add a teaspoon of honey to your morning tea and fill the difference. Honey has natural sugar and antioxidants, which is very nourishing to your body.
  • Jaggery - Jaggery contains many vital vitamins and minerals, such as calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, and potassium. This is 50% greater than normal refined white sugar. Jaggery can be used as a natural sweetener in your daily food intake.
  • Dried Raisins - Raisins are high in sugar and calories, but still, have a low glycemic index. Topping of raisins not only makes food sweet but it also has abundant benefits. Raisins have natural fiber and act as a laxative. Raisins prevent bloating and relieve acidity.
  • Dates - Dates is a healthy sugar alternative. It can be used as a form of a paste or direct adding to your food. Dates are good for your skin and have a good amount of iron. Dates help to improve your bone health and relieves you from constipation.
